Week 3 in the books!

With week 3 of student teaching in the books, it is time to reflect on my experiences and identify areas of improvement for me this upcoming week. This week was filled with many learning opportunities for both me and my students, so keep reading to hear all about them!

Oley Valley FFA Members

On Tuesday, FFA students were able to demonstrate their knowledge related to the FFA Creed and Interview skills as they competed in the Berks County LDE. Six Oley students participated in the Creed Speaking LDE, where they had to recite the whole creed and then answer three questions related to it. The whole week leading up to the competition, we helped students practice answering questions and reciting the various paragraphs with confidence. I watched the students participate in the competition and was very proud to see them successfully recite the Creed and answer questions to the best of their ability. Six older FFA members had the opportunity to display their interviewing skills through creating a resume and answering questions related to their future career goals. Overall, I learned a lot of the advisor's role in helping ensure students are prepared enough to compete in LDEs, so that they can gain important skills needed for their futures.

I am currently teaching 3 class periods and will begin teaching Animal Science this upcoming week. As I look towards picking up more courses, it is very important that I continually reflect on my performance as a teacher so that I can improve my instructional skills. I need to do a better job of stating my learning objectives for each lesson, not only for my students but for me as well. I tend to get lost a little bit when I am teaching, so having a clear set of goals or objectives will help guide me through the lesson better. I also need to enhance my clarity when assigning a project or classwork. I believe having a spot in the classroom that states what is due and when it is due will really help my students stay on task and will eliminate any confusion surrounding my expectations.

Being able to put what I learned into practice has really helped me stay on track and organized as I begin to pick up more classes. I am excited to continue receiving feedback on how to improve and I am looking forward to beginning my next class this week. As always, thanks for joining me on my journey and please leave any comments or advice down below!
