Welcome to my week 5 investment blog, here you'll find what I learned from reading the different resources given for this upcoming week. The readings were focused on group teaching techniques, interest approaches, and an article on stating your objectives. I made a lot of connections to what I perviously learned and to what I read in this week's material, so let's jump into it!
The material I learned this week is very relatable to my student teaching internship, especially as I prepare my unit and lesson plans for the spring. The Methods of Teaching Agriculture article identified 7 group teaching techniques that I can implement into my future classroom. The one that stuck out to me the most was Field Trip planning and using them as a way to grasp student interest into the material. Another connection that can be made to my student teaching experience is the ability to implement Buzz Groups into my lessons. Buzz Groups are small groups of students that are given a problem or topic and are tasked with coming up with the best possible solutions or answers. The last connection that I can make comes from the Magazine article about why stating your objectives is very important. After completing my first teaching lab this past week, I now understand the importance of listing my lesson objectives, not only for me but for my future students as well.
One connection I can make is tied to the Workforce Education class I'm currently taking. In this course, I learned how important it is for students to get hands-on, real life experiences so that they have a felt need to know how to solve a problem or complete a project. The second connection that can be made based on the readings is to AEE 311. The first reading stated that role-playing is a great way to develop leadership and communication skills. In AEE 311, I learned about FFA and how it can be tied into the classroom. Having students role play a certain FFA scenario enables them to work on their leadership abilities while also communicating as a team in the classroom.
My triangulated connection for week 5 is an article I found on why field trips are a powerful learning experience for students. It details how we as teachers can maximize the learning potential of our students from a planned field trip. There are great tips we can use when completing a field trip with our future students that can help us ensure our they are getting the most out of the experience.
