Hey guys welcome back to my blog!
This post contains questions related to the readings we were assigned in AEE 412 for this upcoming week. After completing all of the readings, I was able to better grasp the idea of how to become a successful Ag teacher in the future. Content knowledge and writing lesson plans are definitely not the only aspects to being a successful and impactful teacher and I was able to learn many more from the readings.
Questions:
1. Future Students: What are your interests, aspirations, experiences, and characteristics that influence the person you are today? In the first chapter titled, Factors Influencing Decisions about Teaching, I learned that student clientele should be taken into careful consideration when instructional planning is occurring. Trying to implement individualized instructional strategies can only be successful when you know who your students are and where they come from.
2. Cooperating Teacher: What strategies and opportunities do you provide your students for them to achieve occupational proficiency? Something new I learned from chapter one was occupational decision making, which involves opportunities and choices that enable students to select the occupations they will engage in. Agricultural education relies heavily on providing students real-life experiences that help them make better decisions towards their future career choices.
3. Cohort: How are you going to establish classroom goals and procedures during your first week of school? Part A of The First Days of School, taught me the importance of setting clear goals and classroom expectations at the very beginning of the year. Having classroom control is vital and ensuring that it is achieved early will help you be successful.

I think the most important thing for establishing your goals and procedures is setting the tone on day 1. As soon as your students hit the room they need to feel welcomed but, understand that it is a place to get work done to accomplish those goals. Having clear expectations and procedures in your classroom, will go a long way. I’m not saying there can be no fun involved, just keep everyone moving in the right direction from day 1!
ReplyDeleteHey Dylan, I think you make a great point that as future educators we need to focus on our classroom environment and ensure that it is a welcoming space for students. They should be able to explore out of their comfort zones and not be afraid to make mistakes so that they can further their understanding of the material they are learning, while also having fun during the process.
