About Me!

Welcome to my blog page, here is a small introduction about who I am and what has shaped me into the person I am today!

My name is Lauren McHenry and I'm a junior at Penn State majoring in Agricultural and Extension Education with hopes of student teaching in the Spring of 2022. I grew up in Plymouth, Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) and attended Greater Nanticoke Area High school. During my childhood, I grew up being outdoors with my sister and cousins who live right next door to me. I've grown very fond of doing anything adventurous outside such as hiking with my dog and kayaking.

Fun fact: All of us have attended Penn State and
three of us are current students!

Some of my hobbies in high school and my college career include ballet, volleyball and of course reading! My favorite thing to do on my free time is photography, especially of nature/wildlife. My high school didn't have an agricultural program, so I don't have any first-hand experience working on a farm or through extension programs. However, I believe the education I'm receiving at Penn State is preparing me to hopefully become a great agricultural teacher in the future.

My first job in high school was working at Hillside Dairy Farm as an ice cream server. Working at Hillside taught me the importance of farming and the need to advocate for agriculture. I then got a job working at Valley Dog, which is a canine daycare and boarding facility. I loved going to work everyday and seeing the same dogs who all have their own personalities. I have always had an appreciation for animals, so when I applied to Penn State I came in majoring in Animal Science business option. After two years in the major I learned so much about using animals for food products and agribusiness, but realized I didn't want to go into any of the careers that would be offered after my time at Penn State. I've made great friends at Penn State through the College of Agricultural Sciences and I'm excited to continue to make new friends through the AEE major.

I switched into Agricultural and Extension Education the summer before my junior year and I have loved it so far! Being virtual and entering a new major has been tough, but I can't wait for everything to go back to normal so we can experience life again.

Both of my parents are teachers and so I grew up watching the amazing impact educators can have on the lives of their students. I'm so excited to one day have my own classroom where I can spread the love I have for agriculture to my future students. Thanks for joining me through this journey and I hope you got a feel for who I am as a person and a future educator!
